When is it Time to Replace My AC?

Keeping up with routine maintenance check ups on your AC unit will help keep it running as long and smooth as possible. That being said, these machines aren’t meant to last forever and knowing the ways to tell when your unit is at the end of its lifespan is important. Let’s talk about the signs you’ll most likely see when it’s time for you to replace.

Here Are The Signs

The age of the unit is the first thing you should consider when deciding the right time to replace. Goodman air conditioning systems can last anywhere between 15 and 30 years. So, if your unit starts having more consistent issues, you may want to think back to when it was originally installed.
You might notice a dip in the unit’s efficiency. . As your unit gets older, naturally the effectiveness of the system decreases. The fact of the matter is old systems aren’t as efficient as new ones. In many cases, your energy bills could fluctuate due to a small repair needed on your AC unit (such as a filter replacement or dirty condenser coils). If your energy bills begin to consistently skyrocket and never come down, looking for new AC options would be a good idea.
Experiencing multiple breakdowns per year could be another sign that your AC unit is getting old. This usually isn’t an issue if you are staying consistent with your tune-ups each year, but becomes a concern when frequent breakdowns occur despite routine maintenance. At the end of the day, the older the unit, the more problems—if it becomes extremely frequent, you should prepare to replace your system.
Recurrent problems lead to more repairs, which adds up fast. If you are experiencing this ask yourself which is a better investment, continuous expensive repair bills or a new, working unit? If the cost of repairs nearly adds up to the price of replacing your AC unit, it may be time to invest in a new one.
